The Science and Engineering Board (SERB) awards the J.C. Bose fellowship to active scientists for outstanding performance. The fellowship is scientist-specific and very selective.
Subject areas: All Areas of Science
Eligibility:
- Applicant must be an active scientist with a record of exceptional performance apparent from the award of the S.S. Bhatnagar prize and or fellowship of science academies (including engineering, agriculture, and medicine).
- Applicant/scientist must be in service at the time of nomination to this fellowship.
- Applicant/nominee must be an Indian national working in institutions in India.
- Age limit: fellowship can be held up to 68 years of age.
Duration:
- Initially, for five years
- in case the fellow superannuates during the term of the fellowship, the fellowship can be continued if a host institution is willing to host the fellowship
Fellowship value:
- 25,000/month in addition to regular income
- Research grant: Rs. 15.00 lakh per annum
- The overhead of Rs.1.00 lakh per annum to the host institute.

- The nominator should first register on the online website
- After log-in, go to Menu < Proposal Submission < Form submission.
- Some of the Nominee's details, like Name, email, contact details, area of specialization, educational qualifications, employment details & research experience, etc., must be entered at the time of submission.
- Documents required (in PDF) should be in the prescribed format: Recommendation Letter.
The nominations are received throughout the year.
Selection of J C Bose Fellows will be made periodically (typically twice a year)
The scheme is open throughout the year.
