The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS-Mic) offers a graduate program in different branches of microbiological research. IMPRS-Mic has a specialized facility in Environmental, Cellular, and Molecular Microbiology

- Cellular organization & architecture
- Metabolism & physiology
- Microbial communities & interaction
- Signal transduction & information processing.
Requirements:
- This Ph.D. program is international and open to all students of all nationalities.
- Applicant must hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree, or equivalent, in genetics, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, or related fields.
- Applicants holding an extended (at least 4-year) Bachelor's degree may also qualify for admission to the program. Still, as a rule, they need to attend additional courses at the Philipps-Universität Marburg.
- The program's language is English; therefore, all applicants must demonstrate a sound knowledge of English and provide evidence for this (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS) unless they are native English speakers.
- The German language is not mandatory. German language classes shall be conducted for the international candidates.
The application process:
Applications are invited via the online application system, and fully completed applications must include all the following documents:
- All university certificates and transcripts of records for each academic degree
- A copy of the diploma/certificate of graduation
- Two letters of recommendation
- Non-native English speakers must supply proof of their English language competence by submitting a test score from an internationally acknowledged English language test (The TOEFL Test, IELTS, Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
