IMPRS for Molecular Life Sciences: Ph.D. Program

IMPRS for Molecular Life Sciences: From Biological Structures to Neural Circuits (The International Max Planck Research School) is an institute of excellence for the training of Ph.D. fellows in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular medicine, neurobiology, and structural biology. 

Eligibility:

  • Entry with a Master's degree: Applicant must possess a Master's degree or a 4-year Bachelor's Honours (Equivalent) degree in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, neuroscience, or related disciplines.
  • Applicants may have a combination of B.Sc. and M.Sc. (equivalent to 300 ECTS credits) or a five-year integrated Master's degree. 
  • Entry with 4-year Bachelor Honours (Equivalent degree): Applicants with a 4-year first class B.Sc. Honors or M.Sc. degree from UK and applicants with a first-class B.Sc. degree awarded by European Universities (equivalent to 240 ECTS credits) are eligible to apply. 
  • The candidate will have to fulfill the additional course requirements during Ph.D. studies. 
  • Applicants with a 4-year BSc degree awarded by Universities outside the European Bologna System are typically ineligible to apply.  
  • Fast track program: Applicants with a three-year B.Sc. degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) typically are ineligible to apply directly for doctoral studies unless they are keen on joining a research group associated with the school's research branch, "Circuit Neuroscience." 
  • Candidates with a medical degree, such as an MBBS degree (or an equivalent), and medical students from Germany are ineligible to apply to the Ph.D. program. Therefore, it is recommended that the candidate applies to the specific MD/Ph.D. programs.

  • Transcript (record of study) and degree certificate
  • Temporary/provisional transcripts for degree programs for the current degree 
  • Document qualifying for university studies 
  • Recommend additional documents:
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Information of scholarships, prizes, and awards won
  • A GRE general and GRE subject test report in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or physics (For Indian applicants, GATE score is also accepted).
  • Passport copy

 

The online application portal opens in September, and the closing date for the application is November.
