The Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) - National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF) seeks to identify striving young researchers and support research in science and engineering areas. The fellows shall work under the supervision of a mentor and are expected to become an independent researchers.
Eligibility :
- The candidate has to be a citizen of India.
- The candidate must hold Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree from a recognized University. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D./M.D/M.S. thesis and are expecting the degree award may also apply.
- The maximum age limit for the fellowship is 35 years. Age will be calculated by taking the respective call's closure date. Age relaxation of five years will be offered to Physically Challenged/SC/ST/OBC & Women candidates.
- NPDF can be availed only once.
- Mentors must hold a regular academic / research position in a recognized institution in India and hold a Ph.D. degree in Science/Engineering. A mentor can not have more than two SERB NPDF fellows at any time.
- NPDF, ECRA, and CRG (EMR) aspirants can submit their proposals only once during the calendar year in any of these schemes.
Nature & Duration of Support :
- The fellowship is tenable only in India and can be implemented in any recognized academic institution, national labs, and other established R&D institutions. The host institution should provide the necessary management and infrastructure to assist.
- The fellows will not be allowed to collaborate with Ph.D. guide/co-guide. It is also typically not availed in the same section/institution where the candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.S./M.D degree.
- The fellowship is purely an interim assignment and is tenable initially for up to two years.
Fellowship value:
- Fellowship: Rs. 55,000/- p.m. + HRA (for candidates awaiting the degree award- Rs. 35,000/ p.m. + HRA)
- Engineering Sciences: Rs. 2,00,000/- per year
- Overheads: Rs. 1,00,000/- per year
- Research grants can be used for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, and domestic travel. There is no provision for providing human resources support under the fellowship. The selected candidate is expected to conduct research objectives by themself during the entire fellowship duration.
