Ph.D. Student in Material Science

The Department of Colloids Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces invites applications from remarkable young scientists for the position of Ph.D. student in the field of material science. The department is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student in materials science who is enthusiastic about physical chemistry and nanoscale characterization of materials. 

Requirements:

  • The candidate must have a chemistry/materials science degree or closely related fields. In addition, the candidate must have an outstanding profile, a strong background, and interests in the synthesis and high-end underlying characterization of carbon-based materials using transmission electron microscopy and spectrometry methods.
  • Relate nanoscale characteristics with the physical properties of studied carbon-based materials in ex-situ and in-situ analysis according to external stimuli inside the transmission electron microscope.
  • Application of the enhanced scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques for chemical and electronic structure assessment at the atomic scale
