Eligible candidates are invited to apply for the post of one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under the SERB-CRG Sponsored Project (CRG/2022/003341) titled "Reconstruction of Arabian Sea coastal upwelling conditions and seawater temperature gradient during Miocene (Burdigalian), India: Insights from Stable and Clumped isotope analysis of otoliths and molluscan fauna" under the mentorship of Dr. Prasanna K, Scientist 'C' (Principal Investigator) and Dr.Vivesh Vir Kapur, Scientist 'D' (Co-Investigator), tenable at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Age*: Not exceeding 28 years on the last date of application

Essential Qualification: Post-Graduation in Earth Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Life Sciences/Environmental Sciences from any recognized university/Institutes with minimum 60% marks at graduation and post-graduation level. Applicants must be physically fit to participate in fieldwork in remote areas.

Desirable Qualification: Preference will be given to the candidate:

  1. Having CSIR/UGC NET/GATE qualification.
  2. Having experience in Inorganic/Organic Geochemistry and vertebrate paleontology
  3. Having hands-on experience in operating IRMS.
  4. Experience in the preparation of vertebrate fossils

Fellowship: Rs. 31,000/- + HRA (admissible) per month for CSIR/UGC NET/GATE qualified candidate 
Rs. 25000/- + HRA for a candidate, not CSIR/UGC NET/GATE qualified.

Duration: Three years or a co-terminus with the project. 

*Age relaxation is admissible for candidates of SC/ST/OBC category as per Government of India rules.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates may send their application through email along with updated curriculum vitae, a one-page summary of dissertation works, and self-attested copies of mark sheets/certificates (as a single pdf file) to the Principal Investigator of the project at prasanna@bsip.res.in on/before 10th April 2023 by 6 pm. The short-listed candidates will be intimated subsequently to appear before the selection committee in person or via the online portal (e.g., Google Meet) for the interview. The incumbent shall have no implicit or explicit claim of regular absorption at any capacity in the Institute or the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the interview.
