JSPS Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers

JSPS Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung/Foundation.  
Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung/Foundation offers JSPS Research Fellowships for talented international Postdoctoral Researchers. Candidates must be highly-qualified postdoctoral researchers from Germany and complete a Ph.D. no longer than six years before 1 April of the respective budget year (1 April to 31 March).

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowships aim to provide opportunities for candidates to pursue collaborative research with an academic host at Japanese universities or research institutes.

Total Number of fellowships: Up to 600 JSPS Fellowships per year.

JSPS offers two (02) different funding lines for a stay in Japan:

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships (short-term):
1.    Supports Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers of all disciplines;
2.    Duration: 1 to 12 months working on research in Japan

Qualifications/Requirements:

1.    Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree completed in the last six years (key date: 1 April of the respective year).
2.    Aspirants nearing completion of Ph.D. degrees are also eligible to apply (provided they submit the manuscript of their dissertation or publications containing the results of their dissertation).
3.    Candidate must have academic publications published according to international standards.
4.    Candidate must confirm that research facilities are available and a detailed expert report from an academic host at a university or non-university research institution in Japan.
5.    Applicant must possess good English verbal and writing skills (Japanese skills are not required generally).
6.    Candidates applying in the field of humanities or social sciences and physicians must have a good knowledge of Japanese if necessary to carry out the research successfully.

Application Procedure:

1.    Applications may be submitted to the Humboldt Foundation online portal at any time of the year.
2.    Reviewing the applications takes four to seven months.
3.    Selection committee meetings occur three times a year, in February, June, and October.
