At the TU Wien, 13 positions for Ph.D. students (10 project-funded, three global budget) are available within the framework of the Ph.D. program "Unravelling advanced 2D materials (TU-D)". The positions are expected to start in October 2023 for a period of expected four years each.

The Doctoral College TU-D offers thirteen interdisciplinary projects applying 2D materials for photocatalysis, nanoelectronics, and sensor technology. 

Involved Tasks:

  1. Collaboration in research and teaching tasks as well as examinations
  2. Supervision of students in courses and laboratory exercises
  3. Research and project activities
  4. Deepening of scientific knowledge
  5. Writing a dissertation and publications
  6. Participation in scientific events, particularly of the doctoral college
  7. Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks

Requirements

Education Level: Master's Degree or equivalent in Engineering (Electrical engineering)

Skills/Qualifications

Your profile:

  1. Master's degree or diploma in relevant fields (chemistry, electrical engineering, physics) or equivalent university studies in Austria or abroad completed by September 1, 2023, at the latest.
  2. Advanced knowledge in the field of two-dimensional materials is encouraged.
  3. Within the scope of these university studies, the employee must provide services in connection with their dissertation.
  4. Excellent language skills in English
  5. Willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation
  6. Ability to work in a team, problem-solving, and innovative ability

Eligibility criteria

Applications must include the following documents:

  1. A CV based on the Europass template, including publications and scientific presentations (if available)
  2. A cover letter, including a justified ranking of up to three targeted Ph.D. projects
  3. A summary of the diploma/master thesis 
  4. A copy of a transcript of the records
  5. Two letters of recommendation (e.g., from the thesis supervisor)

Selection process

After the initial selection process, applicants will be invited to give a short presentation (either in person or online) on their research by June 5. The date for the presentation will be in June.
