Fulbright-Nehru Ph.D. Fellowships: United States-India Educational Foundation

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships is for accomplishing a Ph.D. by United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF). The Fellowship program is designed for Indian students registered for a Ph.D. degree at an Indian institution/organization.

Duration: These fellowships are for 6 to 9 months.

Field areas: Applications are invited in the following fields only:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Economics;
  • Bioengineering;
  • Computer Science
  • Education Policy and Planning;
  • International Law International Security and Strategic Studies;
  • Energy Studies;
  • Neurosciences;
  • Materials Science
  • Public Health;
  • Study of India (anthropology, sociology, history, visual and performing arts);
  • Study of the U.S. (anthropology, sociology, history, visual and performing arts);
  • Urban and Regional Planning (smart cities and waste management);
  • Women’s and Gender Studies.

Affiliation required:

  • The candidate will be associated with one U.S. host institution for the grant. Therefore, USIEF recommends that all applicants recognize establishments with which they wish to be connected and correspond with potential host institutions in advance.
  • If the candidate has managed to get a letter of invitation from any U.S. institution, please include it in the application.

Grant Benefits: The fellowships provide

  • a stipend (monthly)
  • Medical (Accident and Sickness Program) for Exchanges per U.S. rules and regulations
  • Economy class air travel (round-trip)
  • J-1 visa support

Requirements:

  • The candidates would have a more significant advantage if they did adequate research in the relevant field,
  • The candidate should register for Ph.D. at an Indian organization on or before November 1, 2022.
  • This grant is anticipated for Ph.D. students to conduct research necessary for their dissertations/thesis. Therefore, the expected Ph.D. thesis submission date should be three months after the Fulbright-Nehru grant end date.
  • The candidate must upload a copy of the original published/presented paper or extracts from the Master’/M.Phil. thesis on the online application form (max. 20 pages).
