These Fellowships are developed to support international students in studying in Japan through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT)

Funding: There are two (02) ways by which students can receive consideration for the MEXT Scholarship program
A.    Through Embassy Recommendation: under which Japanese embassies and consulates recommend entrants for Scholarships.
B.    Through a University Recommendation, by which Tokyo Tech recommends entrants for the Scholarships.

Degree-seeking students
B.    Master's Program Students: 147,000 yen/month
C.    Doctoral Program Students: 148,000 yen/month
D.    Undergraduate students: 120,000 yen/month

Stipends are subjected to change as specified by the policies of the MEXT Scholarship program.

Timeline

A.    MEXT scholarship scholars who enroll in April will obtain a stipend from April. 
B.    Scholars who enroll in September will receive it from October.

Program Description: Scholars can obtain the Scholarship in any of these ways-

A.    Embassy Recommendations: MEXT committee asks the Japanese embassies to recommend nominees for the Scholarship. Applicants willing to receive an Embassy recommendation should check with the Japanese embassy in their home countries.

B.    University Recommendation: Tokyo Tech will recommend for the MEXT Scholarship academically outstanding individuals ((Undergraduate, Research Student, Graduate) who will be considered in need of a scholarship. Candidates who are coming to Japan to study at Tokyo Tech as Research Students, Undergraduate (GSEP), or degree-seeking graduate-level students (International Graduate Program (A) Overseas Application) are eligible for Tokyo Tech's recommendation.

C.    University Recommendation -SGU: During the implementation of the "Top Global University Project," applicants with outstanding academic backgrounds who have applied to graduate programs at Tokyo Tech will be eligible to apply for the University Recommendation. The number of grants is limited.

D.    Domestic Recruitment: Privately financed international candidates at the Tokyo Tech who are enrolled in Master's/Doctoral Programs as regular students are eligible to apply for the MEXT Program (Domestic Recruitment).
