Branco Weiss Fellowship (Postdoc Grants) at ETH Zurich

The Branco Weiss Fellowship is a global fellowship program started in 2002 and organized by ETH Zurich. It provides a program for exceptionally qualified researchers from all disciplines to demonstrate an inclination to participate in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political, or economic issues across the frontiers of their specialization. The fellowship is international and transdisciplinary. The Branco Weiss Fellowship is open to researchers at the postdoctoral level in all disciplines.

Number of fellowships: up to 10 fellowships each year

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree on January 15, 2024, and have obtained a Ph.D. five years before January 15, 2024.
The applicant is not required to hold a faculty-equivalent position (assistant professor or lecturer).
The proposed project must depart from the discipline's mainstream research and have a record of outstanding scientific achievement.
Applicant must demonstrate in the proposal an inclination to engage in a dialog on relevant social, cultural, political, or economic issues beyond the frontiers of a particular discipline.

The application:

Applications are invited online starting October 2023 and must include the following:

Letter of motivation including a statement explaining why the applicant’s research differs from the mainstream (max. 1 page)
Proposed research project (max. four pages, including abstract, timelines and tentative milestones, references extra)
CV (max. four pages)
An invitation letter by the prospective host stating why he/she is invited to the host group and why the research project is supported
Copies of three best publications (no doctoral theses, no books, only peer-reviewed journal articles or individual book chapters)
Application overview, including reasons why the candidate believes that he/she is a perfect candidate for a Branco Weiss Fellowship (max. 1,000 characters)

Candidates are welcome to start applying again in October 2023 for the January 15, 2024 deadline.
