Travel Grants

Travel grants: Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) rewards travel grants of up to three months to MD and Ph.D. scholars and postdoc researchers from all over the globe. The foundation supports the scholars if they carry out experimental projects in basic biomedical research and want to follow short-term study stays or attend practical courses related to their projects in Europe or overseas. The foundation also supports graduate students and their prospective supervisors to appraise the scientific and personal fit before starting a Doctoral project overseas. The duration of travel grants is up to three months. As a part of the grants, the selected scholar may visit another laboratory and attend research-orientated courses, with the practical part making up at least 50% of the course. Doctoral candidates and the prospective supervisor can also use the course to evaluate the scientific and personal fit before the commencement of a project in another country by funding a research stay of one to three months in the supervisor’s laboratory.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants at present must be pursuing an experimental project in basic biomedical research focused on explaining basic biological phenomena of human life and gaining new scientific knowledge.
  • The Ph.D. students, medical students during their Ph.D. thesis, and postdoctoral candidates may be funded by this grant.
  • Also, research visits of graduates who have applied for a Ph.D. project abroad but have not yet worked with their prospective Ph.D. supervisor and have not yet obtained a Ph.D. position (hereafter called Ph.D. candidates) may be supported.
