Scholars Programme by The Europaeum

The Europaeum is a network of eighteen leading European Universities connecting students across disciplines, cultures, and countries. In addition, the Europaeum network offers the Scholars Programme. The program is a two-year policy and leadership course for the most talented, energetic, and committed doctoral candidates from the Europaeum network. These people will make a difference in Europe. The Scholars are expected to be the people who “think for themselves but not just of themselves.” They should have the desire to shape the future of Europe for the better. Admissions to the program occur every two years, so that the next entry will be in autumn 2023.

About the program:

  • The Europaeum Scholars Programme is taken alongside the Ph.D. studies in 7-8 intensive modules. Each module is of 3-5 days in universities across Europe. 
  • The program includes seminars, debates, workshops with leading academics and practitioners, professional skills training, and essential teamwork. 
  • The Scholars work on a project in groups. For example, the group designed and conducted the project to “make Europe a better place.” 
  • The selected candidate is fully funded by a scholarship covering all accommodation, travel, food, and tuition. 
  • The value of the scholarship is about €10,000.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a Ph.D. candidate with at least two years left and should be currently enrolled in one of the 18 member universities.
  • Applicant’s work must engage with at least one of the humanities or social sciences disciplines.
  • Applicant must be carrying out research related to the study of Europe.
  • The applicants must have the backing of their home university and supervisor.
  • Applicant must possess an excellent command of English. 

Applications:
The application would be accepted via email and include the following documents:

  • A Personal Statement maximum of 500 words explaining how the candidate feels they are suitable for the program (both academically and personally) and their motivation for applying. The statement should include examples of what you consider the public good and why / how you are committed to promoting it.
  • Answers the following two questions in a maximum of 200 words: (a) if the candidate has been given €1 million to start a social enterprise. What would it be and why? (b) What is your most important lesson in the last three years?
  • CV (not more than two pages)
  • Degree certificates for completed degrees and provide the transcript or an official university document that confirms final grades for each completed degree.
  • Two academic references.
